“Find something you’re passionate about and keep tremendously interested in it.”
— Julia Child
An early love for creating, the lure of the West Coast, a need for dirt covered hands and the hunger for adventure has led Kenora, Ontario native Michelle Moran to an unexpected career.
Meesh’s (how most know her as) journey began at the University of Victoria where she was enrolled in Visual Arts with a focus on photography, graphics and printmaking. Eventually she found her way to Whistler, BC in search of something new and instantly fell in love with the mountains, skiing and the vibe. Landing a job in construction landscaping easily fed her inherent green thumb and over time she became a Horticulturist with a deep love for design. Drawing on elements from her artsy background allowed her to create beautiful installations that still thrive today. By adapting landscape aesthetics into the planting of a personal vegetable garden, the hosting of many dinner parties and a chance paid gig to cook for friends at a remote fly-in cabin awoke a subconscious passion.
Cooking came as naturally as adventuring and growing food for Meesh and thus, The Nomadic Chef was born. Her cuisine is inspired by the flavours of the West Coast and the abundance of fruits and vegetables available locally in her current hometown of Pemberton, BC or wherever she is. Taking time too compose beautiful plates for hungry guests has encouraged her to photograph her creations and everything in between. No matter where Meesh is cheffing it up you can bet it’ll feel like home.
